Ireland Ct
Part of the Ireland Court Collection, this Juniper bowl was turned just 1 week after it was pulled from the neighbor’s yard. Turning green wood is every woodturners favorite, especially a bowl! The shavings really fly! When I turn green wood, I like to turn it to the finished shape, and thin. Turning it thin allows the material to move and shift as it continues to dry without cracking. Each piece that is turned this way is always a surprise when it has dried to see how the movement has changed the overall shape. Sometimes it is a lot, sometimes very little, it all depends on the species and the amount of moisture that is in the piece at the beginning. The collection was finished with a food safe oil to bring out the softness of the material as well as deepen the red tones that are often found in Juniper.
