The Nail Bowl

The Nail Bowl, why is it called that? Believe it or not, when at the lathe working with this piece, I found a nail imbedded deep into the bowl!  This piece is made from Mulberry, a light colored sometimes yellowish wood, but this bowl is clearly not that.  When a nail is hammered into a tree and not removed, the tree will continue to grow and grow around it.  In most cases it does not affect the trees health, but the nail oxidizes and turn the wood a dark color.  Which is why this piece of material has darkened.  Although the story and the power of nature adds to this interesting piece, but also the finish warms the entirety and brings out some of the yellow that is more commonly seen in Mulberry.
